1991年全国高血压抽样调查工作，在卫生部各级卫生厅（局）直接领导和大力支持下，经广大医务，专业工作人员共同努力协作于1991年10月底完成了现场调查工作。由中国医学科学院阜外医院流行病研究室负责汇总。 资料进行整理统计分析于1993年6月得出初步数据，随后整理核对付印，先后共历时2年3个月。
现将全国及各省、自治区、直辖市的主要数据刊出，以为我国当前人民健康水平的评估和对有关领导在制定心血管病防治对策和研究方面提供有价值的依据。 本资料仅为初步的基础资料。
